A well-known Hindu temple in Delhi, Akshardham Temple is a spiritual complex tucked away in New Delhi. This magnificent temple is known as the Akshardham Temple of Swaminarayan Akshardham and was built in the Noida Mor neighborhood of New Delhi in 2005. The terms “Akshar” and “Dham,” which together signify “eternal” and “abode,” form the term “Akshardham.” Overall, it refers to the home of timeless principles, values, and virtues that are mentioned in Hindu mythology’s Vedas and Puranas. In addition to all of this, the Delhi Akshardham Temple complex showcases a variety of traditional elements, stunning architecture, Indian culture, and spirituality.

The Akshardham Mandir main complex, which is located in the center, was constructed using Pancharatra Shashtra and Vastu Shastra principles. One of the top attractions in Delhi is the Akshardham Temple, which features 234 exquisitely carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, 20 quadrangle spires, and 20,000 statues of Indian spiritual figures. History of Akshardham Temple Delhi

The complete Swaminarayan Akshardham complex was constructed over the course of about 5 years using traditional techniques like Vastu and Pancharatra shastra. Around 1968, Yogiji Maharaj, the BAPS’s then-spiritual leader, had the idea for the temple complex. Later in 1982, Pramukh Swami Maharaj, his successor, began work on the Akshardham complex’s construction. The Delhi Development Authority and the Uttar Pradesh government, respectively, proposed the project of 60 acres and 30 acres of land each in 2000. The construction of the temple complex began in the month of November 2000 and was finished in around 5 years. After that, it was formally inaugurated in November 2005.

The center of the Swaminarayan Akshardham complex is Akshardham Mandir, a building made of pink sandstone and marble. Akshardham Delhi was constructed in the classic Hindu architectural style, following the design of ancient India. It adheres to both aPancharatra Shastra and conventional Vastu Shastra. Intricate carvings of flowers, animals, musicians, dancers, and Hindu deities can be seen throughout the complex, including the Mandir.

Festival At Akshardham Temple Delhi

Under the direction of Gurudev Param Pujya Mahant Swami ji Maharaj, the present Guru and Chief of Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushuottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, the celebrations are being held (BAPS). On the occasion of Vijayadashmi, a ‘Vishwa Shanti Mahayag’ is held at the Akshardham Temple in presence of Gurudev Mahant Swami ji Maharaj. Youth diwas and karwachauth are also celebrated in the temple.

Architecture of Akshardham Delhi

The heart of the Swaminarayan Akshardham complex is Akshardham Mandir, a building made of pink sandstone and marble. The main temple, exquisitely designed gardens, exhibits, open courtyards, and water features are all part of the expansive Swaminarayan Akshardham Delhi complex, with each area showcasing a unique facet of Hinduism and spirituality.

Akshardham Delhi was constructed in the classic Hindu architectural style, following the design of ancient India. It adheres to both Pancharatra Shastra and conventional Vastu Shastra. Intricate carvings of flowers, animals, musicians, dancers, and Hindu deities can be seen throughout the complex, including the Mandir.

The red Rajasthani sandstone and the Italian Carrara marble used to build the temple provide a seductive contrast that enhances the overall attractiveness of the building. More than 6,000 tonnes of pink sandstone from Rajasthan were brought in for the building.

With a height of 141.3 feet and a width of 316 feet, it is spread out gloriously. It is made up of approximately 234 exquisitely carved pillars. It features 20 quadrangle peaks and 9 domes with ornate decorations. Around 20,000 Hindu idols can be found at the temple. Under the main dome is where the 11-foot-long main Swaminarayan statue is located.

Facts about Akshardham Temple Delhi

200 stone sculptures representing Indian sages, monks, Acharyas, and celestial incarnations may be seen in Akshardham Temple. In addition, it has 20,000 figurines of Hindu deities, 234 ornately carved pillars, 9 ornate domes, and Gajendra Pith.

Narayan Sarovar, a lake that receives water from 151 lakes in India, surrounds Akshardham Temple. Along the lakes, there are 108 cow faces that stand in for the 108 Hindu deities. Its 3,000-foot-long Parikrama circular path is built of red stones transported from Rajasthan. Additionally, it has a two-story structure with 145 windows and 1,152 pillars. The temple is covered with this Parikrama like a lovely garland.

What is inside the temple?

The central sanctum of Akshardham Temple, Swaminarayan Mandapam, which represents the divine abode of the Lord, is the primary mandapa inside the temple. Another mandap, the 72-foot-tall Paramhansa Mandapam, is embellished with intricately carved pillars and domes.

The Ghanshyam Mandapam, which stands 38 feet tall and is supported by eight pillars, features a broad dome that resembles a saucer.Four-faced pillars of the 72-foot-tall Lila Mandapam have been etched with the life stories of Bhagwan Swaminarayan. The Neelkanth Mandapam contains an idol of Neelkanth Varni and is decorated with sculpted domes and eight-sided pillars.

As the name suggests, Smruti Mandapam is the location where Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s sacred remnants, including his clothing, hair, beads, footprints, and other items, have been preserved and stored for viewing. Sahajanand Mandapam is a carved-dome mandapam that is 32 feet high. It features an image of Bhagwan Swaminarayan relaxing beneath a neem tree. 148 statues of Shri Swaminarayan’s devoted disciples may be found in Bhakta Mandapam. There is a statue of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and his follower Akshar in Purushottam Mandapam.
